Discussion Reflection Writing Prompt
Write a reflection about the discussion we had related to “The Danger of a Single Story” and about stereotypes. Talk about the parts of the discussion that you agreed with or disagreed with. Explain why you agreed or disagreed. Cite specific parts from the discussion to support you answer. Also include what new perspective you have now after having the discussion. Type your response in a word document and be ready to share it with others.
The Assignment
Adding to your reflection from above describe a story in your life where someone put you into a single story. Talk about how that made you feel, what you were thinking as it happened, what you think about it now, and how you would like to be able to respond in the future. Then block out 5 different settings where you can take the images for your project. Remember when blocking out an image write notes in the space around it to remind you of details that are important to tell all of your story. Write possible phrases on the blocking page that can be added to the blank paper once back in Photoshop.
Taking Photographs
Using your blocking documents and written reflections take images holding a blank piece of paper. Try different poses within the same setting or try the same pose same setting and have different facial expressions. Try looking directly at the camera or looking away. You will need someone else to help you take pictures. So make a plan for someone to help you with your project.
Editing Photographs
Take time to look over all of your images. Load them on to your computer and write down the ones that seem to show the most interest. Start developing phrases that could go with the image. Try grouping images together with continuous phrases that develop more than one story.
